"A" Company, 1/18 Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division

As so often before in its history, again in the Vietnam conflict, the 1st Infantry Division was sent to the conflict area as the first infantry unit. It was ordered to the battlefield in Southvietnam in June 1965. The 1st ID should stay there for almost 5 years until January 1970 and was involved in many major operations like Operation Cedar Falls and Operation Junction City. Until the end of the war 11 soldiers were awarded with the Medal of Honor. But the 1st ID also had to pay a high price for its success. 6.146 soldiers of the 1st Infantry Division paid the unltimate sacrifice on the battlefield, 16.019 were wounded in action and 20 were listed as a prisoner of war. We try to do our best to honor all the brave young men and women who served during that time.
